Curious how setting a standard for the definition of a professional in T&F would affect those athletes who compete at high levels but go unsponsored. Would an athlete need an official sponsor to race in the US Trials? Perhaps participating against athletes who are labeled as professional would help those athletes gain a sponsorship?
I think professionalizing the sport is the right move in the long term but I admit that, as a retired SEC runner, I have no credible ideas on how to make this happen.
