I call east coast bias on the idea Philadelphia is the perfect place. Sure it’s easier to get to than Eugene. But 9 lane tracks in places like Minnesota, Kansas would draw locals every day who’d be elated to host. And then there’s Long Beach State which is very easy to get to. No, I think the attendance issue isn’t solved by finding “yet another big eastern city full of people who don’t care.” Put that thing in Minnesota and you’ll see hundreds of kind people falling over themselves to bring casseroles to the athletes. Philadelphia, they’ll throw stuff at the runners.
